BREAST SURGERY (MAMMOPLASTY)

Mammoplasty is a type of surgery that is chosen to have breasts with ideal proportions, providing breast reduction, breast enlargement, or breast lift. It is also required in breast reconstruction after cancer surgery.

How are breast enlargement surgeries performed?

We can say that breast enlargement surgeries are the most commonly chosen surgeries in the world. In order to make women feel more confident and to eliminate any health problems caused by pathological reasons, it is a surgery that we frequently perform in order to help patients achieve their ideal breast size.

In breast enlargement surgery, fat or filler injections can be used, while more permanent methods use implants that are suitable for the patient's anatomical structure. When selecting a prosthesis, the patient's age, body type, and the symmetry of the breasts are taken into consideration. In breast enlargement surgery, a cut is made under the breast, at the top of the breast, or around the armpit, and if necessary, the breast is lifted, and the prosthesis is placed in the appropriate anatomical position. The duration of the surgery varies depending on the method used, but it can take an average of 1.5-2 hours. The surgery is performed with general anesthesia.

How are breast reduction surgeries performed?

Breast reduction surgery is chosen in cases where developmental disorders and various tumours cause the breasts to be excessively large after pregnancy and breastfeeding. Excessively large breasts can cause pain in the chest, back, shoulders, and waist, and can also reduce the quality of life of the patient. In order to eliminate this condition, a "lollipop" or "inverted T" shaped incision is made from the top of the breast downward, and excess fat is removed from the breast tissue and the breast is placed in the appropriate anatomical position. In this way, the structure of the breast tissue is reduced, and the patient is given a lighter and more aesthetic appearance. The surgery is performed under general anaesthesia and can take an average of 1.5-2 hours.

Is there loss of sensation post-surgery?

It is possible to perform breast reduction and breast lift surgeries using techniques that preserve sensation in the nipple area. Therefore, even if there is a loss of sensation in the early postoperative period, this is not a permanent condition. As the wound heals, the sensation in the nipple will gradually return to its previous state.

Does breast reduction surgery have a negative effect on breast cancer?

Reducing the amount of breast tissue during breast reduction surgery also reduces the likelihood of cancer. However, it is not possible to completely eliminate the risk. The risk of breast cancer developing in the remaining breast tissue still exists. Therefore, it is important not to neglect routine ultrasound and mammography screenings.

Is it necessary to use a bra after the operation?

We recommend using a corset for three weeks after breast surgery. The corsets we use prevent the weight of the stitches from being placed on the tissue, and the healing is faster.

Gynecomastia and Its Treatment

Gynecomastia is the name given to the abnormal but benign growth of breast tissue that is seen in male patients and is often caused by hormonal imbalances. Gynecomastia can appear in either one or both breasts and can be of different sizes. Because this condition can cause aesthetic concerns in male patients, gynecomastia is corrected through surgery.

Gynecomastia surgery is performed under general anaesthesia, using either the liposuction or mastectomy method. In the liposuction method, a small surgical incision is made at the edge of the breast and all targeted tissue within the boundaries of the breast is emptied using thin liposuction cannulas. In the mastectomy method, the breast tissue is completely cut and removed. The method used will be determined by your doctor after examination and evaluation. Swelling and oedema are normal after gynecomastia surgery and are temporary. The patient will be given a special chest corset to wear for three weeks. The final result can be achieved in 1.5-2 months and does not recur unless there is excessive weight gain.
